In 1992 I purchased a 1970 914-6 project car from a local seller, VIN 9140430465. The car was tired, not running, and had been modified over the years. It had a 2.7 Litre C.I.S. motor, fiberglass flares, 916-ish fiberglass bumpers, mismatched wheels, a bad black paint job, and an interesting previous owner.
The car had many typical structural problems of a 914 this vintage, including rotten battery tray,a broken rear suspension mount, rotten longitudinals, and a rotten floor pan. It also featured several holes between the engine bay and the trunk to accomodate the fuel injection system. |

Falling deeper into my delusion that I would be driving this Porsche before the turn of the Century, I purchaed my third 914, a 1970 1.7 Litre "parts" car. Upon detailed inspection I discovered that the body of this car was just a little better than the 914-6, and that there was some serious work to be done.
In February of 1993, during the biggest snowstorm of the Winter, I put both 1970 cars on a carrier and sent them on their way to South of the Mason-Dixon line and points beyond. |
