plan | system | speakers | amplifier | interface | subwoofer | tweaks

After connecting all of the components, installing the fuse, and setting the amplifier configuration, I started the car, and began some adjustments.

The head unit output level is quite high, so I set the a/d/s/ input gain fairly low.

I set the high-pass crossover at about 120Hz, and the low-pass crossover at about 90Hz.

I realized that the Bose subwoofer driver does not perform well in its enclosure with an unequalized signal, so I was forced to set the subwoofer gain lower than I would have liked. I hope to fix this problem with the new driver.

I then shut everything down, and mounted the amplifier on the wooden plate.

I was even able to put the tool box back.

My wife and I are really quite pleased with the results of the upgrade, and feel that the overall frequency response of the system is vastly improved. I hope to continue to refine the system with changes to the subwoofer, and continued refinement of the crossover points and amplifier gain.

I may also adapt the 6-disc changer interface to allow the use of an iPod's line-level outs.

I may also investigate the addition of a digital signal processor to enhance the soundstage presented by the speakers.
